What is pokernight?
Look at my chuds

If you're here because you're confused about their dynamic/lore, here's the spot for answers!
Keep in mind that if you're a big fan of discovering lore on your own, this might spoil a few things. I'm not the best at lore building though, so I don't blame you if you just came here for a direct answer.
What is pokernight?
Pokernight is my selfship, to put it simply!
The reason for the name is because Clueby has heart antennas, similar to the heart suit (poker). And Black is darkness itself (night).
I guess I should probably explain that too.
Headcanons
You've probably seen THIS before!

I drew that
Black is the god of darkness. He is omnipotent and all-knowing. He has an endless amount of knowledge about everything that happens in the darkness, and the world's deepest secrets. A lot of bad things tend to happen at night, don't they?
He's existed since the beginning of time, once being just a body-less voice that can mimic anybody's shape or tone. His only downside is that he can't ever change into a different color. This caused a lot of rumors surrounding Black as sprunkis roamed more.
During this time, he's never felt anything. Save for his growing resentment against all life. It's rather unfair, having people talk behind you, spreading tales and scary stories, yet still having the gall to do such heinous acts similar to those he's been accused of. Murder, making people go missing, deals that ruin lives, robbery. Whatever you can think of, people have likely done it more than Black ever has. And it slowly but surely enrages him more and more. He's been shunned from the lifeforms he's forced to settle with on this planet. He was never given a chance to even reveal himself. So, he typically resides in isolation or stares from a distance at whatever piques his interest.
I will probably add more here if I get more faq/remember stuff here. TLDR: Black is a really powerful god. He is all that resides in darkness and all that is darkness. Pretty Cool!!!
Who is Clueby?
A stone-cold detective who acts like she’s stuck in a 1950s movie. Despite how mean she looks, she doesn't realize her own apathy. She knows every corner of every street and seems to always be right on time when crime starts getting rampant. She’s definitely getting help from someone with her job…But who’s pulling all the strings?
Clueby is a detective. Once a star child, most of her childhood primarily circled around extensive amount of work related to her future. Basically, she wasted her early years to get to where she is now. And she doesn't even look happy doing it.
She used to stay in a bigger city, but after a quick call by Tunner, (thanks to to help of her cousin, Jevin, who she eternally HATES after he suddenly moved on the very day they were supposed to have their duet concert together. He was her only friend at this part of her life, causing her to fall into a ton of isolation.) she now stays in the same town as the rest of the sprunkis. Yay!!!
Except it's not too great there. The reason she was called over at all was for something a little more paranormal. Rumors are STRONG in this part of the town since it's a little more rural compared to most areas. The lesser the population, the more likely that word has been shared around about how "he" lurks there.
Clueby never bought it. She's an atheist, actually.
She's extremely strict with her work, trying to solve cases and investigate shady work hidden throughout the town. It's small compared to bigger cities, but it's certainly NOT tiny. She always has a lot of work to do. This stress is commonly relieved by chainsmoking for an hour outside her office. No, it does not work very well. Yes, this is integral to the 2 endings I have for her. Yes, it is an addiction.
TLDR: Clueby is
one mean lady, but she's always been that way. She never learned to apply her feelings to anything, and this made it hard for her to make friends, which caused her to naturally separate herself from most people. Sad!
How did they meet?
I'm gonna try to make this short now because I'm realizing how much I'm typing
Black found her after she moved in. He observes everybody, but she caught his eye a LOT. The way she'd just push people away, focusing on her objectives, only giving herself fleeting moments of comfort in the darkness. Somehow, it was almost like he knew they weren't too different. He also understands what it means, to rather drift away from other people. To accept your isolation, and linger in it, with no sight of it ending.
For a moment, he was confused with his feelings. He's never related to anybody before, and especially not like this. Intrigued, he kept his eyes on her for a long while, mistaking his feelings for a unique urge to kill instead of approach.
He quickly corrected that thought.
Instead, he began to take form for himself. His own attire and his own voice. Something he's never done for himself before.
I made this too
I like to imagine he dresses up very dapper and enjoys presenting himself as a debonair businessman. Do not be fooled. He only makes deals that have a catch to them, no matter how convincing he sounds. Which he is. He's actually very good at persuasion. It is scary.
He wanted to make himself look more presentable before finally bringing himself over to her to converse with her more personally. He'd give her new cases, guide her to certain clues, and sometimes even help her solve a mystery entirely. It didn't take much effort on his end, considering that most of her cases were held place at night. He already knew all of this. It felt...Nice to see someone take care of the mess around the town. Their interactions were short at first, but the more Clueby began to get less skeptical, she began to show appreciation for helping her with her stressful work.
Then the small interactions turned into small talk. Then the small talk turned into conversations. Then the conversations turned into being acquaintances. Then being acquaintances turned into bonding while Clueby's on her smoke break. Then the smoke breaks turned into...
Wait a minute. He's in love. GOD DAMMIT!!!!!
What's their dynamic then?
Despite how different they are in a cosmical sense, their isolation has caused them to bond together. Suddenly, their loneliness doesn't feel too barren anymore. They also balance each other out strangely well.
Clueby keeps him in check a lot. He appreciates her honesty and ability to criticize him. She isn't afraid to speak up and tell him to stop when he's literally on the brink of destroying the world. (I WILL EXPLAIN THAT LATER) Because she's so brutally honest, it keeps Black grounded in her reality in an emotional sense. He feels included with the rest of the world for once because he finally has another voice that isn't just his own, talking to himself. He can look for guidance for her when he doesn't understand what he's feeling, and every time she helps, it makes him feel a little more real. She also calls him Noir because it means "Black" in French. He thinks it's endearing.
Black also continues to help her with her detective work. This kind of depends though. She doesn't like asking for help, so he only "helps" when he notices she's visibly disgruntled/distressed. He cares too much but he also loves to keep secrets. So he loves to hint at certain things in the form of poems or metaphorical sentences/stories. It makes him happy when he sees her understand what he's talking about afterward. He also follows her when she's out doing work (investigating) and often reels her into the darkness for safety when things get too hectic, e.g. weapons are pulled out and she gets shot.
He fears her death constantly. He's never felt this way before. Scared over a mortal's own life. He never thought he'd ever have to worry about mortality...Now he's in love. And suddenly, the clock is ticking against him.
YAY! Now you know how they balance each other, and a little bit about Black's fear over Clueby's eventual death! SO HERE'S THE 2 ENDINGS!
NON-CANON ENDING (Patient room A-23)
You just want the straight answer so I'll explain it simply. Clueby has a terminal illness. She's known this for a very long time. Because she fears how Black will react to such news, knowing their time is now even more limited than before, she never tells him. This was in hopes to try and comfort him during her last moments, trying to reassure him that he would hopefully find someone to love just like how he did with her. She was hoping her last moments would be in bed like any usual day, but she got shot around her legs, causing Black to go on a rampage and take her to the hospital. She dies in her sleep. Despite her efforts to ease his mind before she went, he blamed it on the world, which eventually broke into horror mode.
Basically, the worst ending that could've happened. Luckily, that only exists if horror mode never happened beforehand!
So there's a version where she can't die.
CANON ENDING (AFTERMATH)
I'll also try to keep a straightforward explanation for this. Horror mode happens, Black finally loses all reason to keep any other life around, or not at least under his bidding. Despite all of Cluebys efforts, the world was too cruel towards them both, and he gave into his resentment and desire for the two of them to finally be safe. Clueby, confused, tries to go out and investigate the area while keeping a safe distance from the commotion. She realizes something is wrong, and tries to gather as much information about it to run off to the bigger city she was from to alert other authorities to take care of the matter. She never thought someone she loved would've possibly done this...Surely it's something else, right?
Well, it technically was. At least it was someone different when she eventually got her eyes slashed in.
Wenda specifically cuts open her antennas and eyes, causing her to be unable to see or hear correctly. Wenda leaves her there after seeing her as no longer a threat, leaving her completely helpless.
That was until Black took her in after the accident.
He looks over her wounds, realizing what Wenda has done. Regretful but determined, he strikes a deal with her for once. Desperate to live, despite her usual pessimistic view of herself, she accepts his deal. He will give her sight again, as long as she fully puts her trust in him. He just wanted to be reassured that she still trusts him after all of this. She deeply regrets making this deal.
Along with her ability to see again, came with something else he slipped in. Immortality. She became immortal. The side effects of this were noticeable already when she realized she didn't feel her body declining, or her life being sucked out of her body from blood loss. Or the terminal illness she was told of. Everything just stopped. And she realizes she's made a wrong decision.
She still loves him. But she's so disappointed in him. He was doing so well, and one day he just threw it all away for the sake of their safety. It was selfish, and she knows that. But a part of her wanted peace as well, just not like this.
Now all she can do left is try to keep him together when he shows signs of making another impulsive decision. She can only do so much, telling him not to do something, having to be observant when he might act out suddenly. He knows she's trying so hard now to keep him in check. He appreciates it. He doesn't know why he acts out this way, though. And he's so sorry.
